The other night I dreamed Georgia and Ira of Yo La Tengo were playing a show in town and I was to play bass. I think they were doing a Chuck Berry thing where they roll into town and play with a pick-up band. We walked out on stage before a large crowd. It was dark, I fumbled with a cup of coffee. We launched into the Jam's 'In the City'. I realized I didn't know how to play it, and I realized we had never practiced and I got very embarrassed. I tried to figure it out but I couldn't hear well enough. I kept messing up. Georgia and Ira didn't show any anger but I could tell they were disappointed in me. I felt horrible. But then I told myself that they would never tour without James McNew, and this had to be a dream, and it ended.
